Author James Runcie talks about the imaginative research involved in writing his new novel The Great Passion, the story behind the inspiration, composition, rehearsal and first performance of Bach’s masterpiece in April 1727.

James Runcie is a British documentary filmmaker, television producer, novelist and playwright. He is also Commissioning Editor for Arts on BBC Radio 4, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a visiting professor at Bath Spa University.
