Cry and Wreath-Laying Ceremony
On Friday 17th March 2023, there will be a Town Cry & Wreath-Laying Ceremony starting from the Buttermarket of the Town Hall to mark the 280th anniversary of the Murder in the Churchyard (with the Town Crier, Mayor, Reverend Christopher Breeds & Ryebellion).
The ceremony will begin with a Cry from the Town Crier in the Town Hall Buttermarket, then head into the Clare Chapel of the Church, where Reverend Christopher Breeds will say a prayer for both John Breads & Allan Grebell, after which the Mayor will lay a wreath on Allan Grebell’s tomb.
The ceremony will celebrate the life of Allan Grebell and his service to Rye as much as it will be about the murder itself.
