Romantic Road + Q&A
This heart-warming documentary brims with tales of danger, self-reflection and ruminations, yet is ultimately about a deep love affair.
Tucked away in the south of England, Rupert Grey, a practising lawyer and photographer, and his wife Jan, a bereavement visitor, have lived their lives the way they see fit. As retirement lingers on the horizon they are invited to a human rights festival in Dhaka as the guests of honour, but Rupert believes in sabbaticals not retirement.
Shipping the family car – a battered 1936 Rolls-Royce – to Mumbai they embark on a journey across India spanning six months and over 5,000 miles. They fall into company with tea-wallahs and maharajahs, dodge tribal conflicts and battle border officials ultimately landing their car in the hands of the Bangladeshi Customs.
